Midi for Korg Minipops 7 (uniPulse installation)

This guide shows you how to use the Tubbutec uniPulse interface with a Korg Minipops 7.

The config file for the Korg Minipops 7 is here.

– Full velocity control for all 14 instruments
– Velocity controls guiro pitch
– Midi sync (optional)

Guiro pitch is controlled by midi velocity. If you want a fixed pitch, adjust CV-voltage until the desired pitch is reached.

Trigger points:

The image below shows the trigger points. You can solder the uniPulse trigger outs directly to these points. An exception is the Guiro, which is connected to the uniPulse CV-out with an additional diode.

Connection to uniPulse is as follows:
1 Conga
2 SB
3 LB
4 CL
5 RS
6 BD
9 SD1
10 SD2
11 HH
12 CY1
13 CY2
14 CB
CV –|>– GUI

Supply voltage

Supply for the uniPulse can be directly taken from the 19V rail labled: VTG. Connect the VIN+ wire here.
Connect the GND wire to GND of the MiniPops.

Midi Sync

In order to add midi sync you need an additional two pole switch.

Desolder one leg of the capacitor and one leg of the resistor as shown in the next two images and connect them to the switch and the uniPulse as shown in the schematic below:

  1. Is there a specific diode type to use for the guiro cv connection? Thanks!

  2. Do you happen to know if the procedure is the same for the Univox branded SR-95?

  3. fyi the univox SR-95 does not have any rimshot components installed, the rimshot trigger fires the cowbell circuit instead.

  4. @ndkent are you aware of the circuit board being the same as the mp-7 on the sr95? as in, are the circuitry components missing? hypothetically, could a rim shot be re-established on an sr95?
